Symmetry & Asymmetry

Symmetry and Asymmetry are two divisions through which balance can be achieved. In symmetry, the balance is equal distributed throughout the photograph. Asymmetrical balance involves a disorderly system in which the objects within the image are not necessarily proportional to each other.

I chose these pictures as urban depictions of asymmetry for a numerous amount of reasons. The books located in Bender Library are unevenly layer across that shelf thus having asymmetrical balance to them. The hands are two different sizes and races; and the graduation photograph is full of women of differing stature. Lastly, the firework from New Year's eve is full of asymmetrical balance.

The images positioned below are perfect examples of symmetry. The water fountain at the World War II memorial, the Washington Memorial, and the entering gate to Chinatown here in D.C. are all examples of man-made symmetry. The green eyes are another representation of symmetry except they are a natural version.
